Celsius Network<\/a> is a cryptocurrency staking app that allows you to stake a variety of supported cryptocurrencies in return for pre-defined returns. These returns are paid out weekly. Typical annualised returns range from a around 2-3% up to 16.49% with occasional promotions to boost returns if you receive your payouts in the Celsius Network token, CEL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From time to time, Celsius also offers promotions where you can earn bonus rewards for investing certain cryptocurrencies for certain periods of time. One example could be investing USDT (Tether) for 30 days in order to get a bonus of USD $20 paid out in USDT using the Celsius promo code: USDT20<\/strong>. (Promo code is current as at the time of writing).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with any investment, I want to get the best bang for my dollar and keep fees to a minimum, and that can be a challenge when investing from Australia. AUD is not widely traded on cryptocurrency exchanges, and many exchanges do not yet have fee-free bank transfer options available (eg Coinbase<\/a>). Celsius does not have a fee-free way to invest AUD either and the fees to invest directly in the Celsius app<\/a> using a credit or debit card can be quite substantial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of writing, USDT\/Tether is also not available for purchase directly on the Celsius app<\/a>, so in this article I’m going to find out what the cheapest way is to purchase USDT and invest it on the Celsius Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note, this article will be evolving as I continue to explore other ways of buying USDT with AUD and sending it to Celsius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Methodology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In order to calculate the best value, I’ve chosen a total investment of AUD $100.00. I chose AUD $100 so it would be easier to calculate percentages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve then reviewed each payment option based on a total investment including all fees of AUD $100.00 to identify which option comes out on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have chosen the value of AUD to USDT at the time of article writing to calculate conversion rates and subsequent costs. This value will vary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, for our calculations, $1 AUD buys 0.76316 USDT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investing larger amounts may save you money in some methods as they charge flat fees. I’ve noted this in the relevant options<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Option 1: Binance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Deposit Fees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Binance offers free AUD deposits<\/strong> using instant PayID transfers and direct conversions from AUD to USDT. In other words, you don’t need to exchange to an intermediary cryptocurrency first and pay two sets of exchange fees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I’ve gone ahead and deposited AUD $100.00 into my Binance spot wallet. No fees so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trading\/Exchange Fee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You do, however, have your exchange fees. You can find the full Binance<\/a> fee schedule for trades here<\/a>. I’m going to make the assumption that most people reading this article will be trading at VIP Level 0. This means you pay a 0.1% maker or taker fee<\/strong>. If you hold enough BNB<\/a> in your account to pay the trade fees then you pay a discounted 0.075%<\/strong>. If you have also signed up using my referral link<\/a>, then you will get a further 10% fee kickback making your trading fee 0.0675%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also get greater discounts by holding more BNB<\/a> in your Binance exchange wallet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, based on an 0.0675% trading fee, at the time of writing, I would expect to expend AUD $0.0675 to purchase USDT, giving me an equivalent AUD amount of $99.9325. So far, so good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on our 0.76316 USDT value, that gives us 76.26449 USDT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Withdrawal Fee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Binance charges a flat fee for USDT withdrawals along with applying a minimum withdrawal amount. Celsius uses an ERC20 wallet so the minimum withdrawal is currently 6 USDT and the fee is 3 USDT<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 3 USDT withdrawal fee equates to a 3.935% fee<\/strong> (after rounding to 3 decimal places). Not too bad, but being a flat fee, the more we transfer at once, the lower this fee percentage becomes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, if we doubled our initial buy, its 1.967% (after rounding). Or, if our initial buy was AUD $1000, all of a sudden this fee is 0.3935% instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amount Received in Celsius<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Based on our initial AUD $100 deposit, this results in 73.26449 USDT<\/strong> being deposited to our Celsius Network wallet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our total fees are approximately 4.0025%<\/strong>, reducing based on increased deposit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on a AUD $1000 deposit, our total fees would be approximately 0.461%<\/strong> which is pretty good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Option 2: Crypto.com App<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The fiat to crypto purchase fees are unclear and are not actually listed in the fee schedule. They only list crypto to crypto exchange or debit\/credit card purchase. However, testing this out, I noted 0 fees on exchanging AUD<\/strong> deposited via PayID to USDT. You can check the current fee schedule in the settings section of the Crypto.com App<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on our 0.76316 USDT value and no conversion fee, that gives us 76.316 USDT. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Withdrawal Fee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

From the Crypto.com App, there is a flat fee for USDT withdrawals along with a minimum withdrawal amount. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The withdrawal fee is currently 3 USDT.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A note on the Crypto.com Exchange<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You can also send USDT from the Crypto.com Exchange<\/a> to your Celsius<\/a> wallet. However, you cannot trade AUD directly on the Crypto.com<\/a> Exchange. If you exchange another coin for USDT, or if you are holding USDT on the Crypto.com<\/a> Exchange then you can send that USDT directly from your exchange spot wallet to your Celsius wallet with the same fees as if you were sending it from the Crypto.com App.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you do need to exchange another coin for USDT, Crypto.com currently has a 100% fee rebate <\/strong>if you pay your trading fees in CRO for VIP1 tier traders (those who have staked at least 5000 CRO on the exchange and have a 30 day trading volume of less than USD $250,000) and you are trading as a taker (someone who places an exchange order at market price that gets filled immediately). A 100% fee rebate represents excellent value and is one of the reasons I use and recommend the Crypto.com exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
